Vendors on Avenida Atlântica: a struggle between ingenuity and art

Nowadays, those who want to eat in the restaurants that have tables on the sidewalk of Avenida Atlântica will have, besides food, a real consumer experience. Every five minutes, someone comes along to sell something, from music to poisonous snakes. Benefiting from the total tax exemption on the money raised, sellers proliferate and the owners of bars and restaurants already confess to be powerless in stopping them.

“We can’t do anything else,” says the manager of restaurant Soma. “In the past the tables were indoors, and we had more or less control. Now, while you’re kicking a salesman out at one end of the restaurant, there’s another one coming around the corner and appealing to the sensitivity of customers. And we keep playing the role of the villain”, concludes the manager.
